What Are Clinical Trials?

Helping Advance Tomorrow's Treatments

Clinical trials are research studies that help determine whether potential new treatments, medications or approaches to care are safe and effective. Every new medicine approved in the U.S. must first be studied in clinical trials. By volunteering for a clinical trial, participants play an important role in helping researchers learn more about potential treatments and advance medical care for the future.

What Does Participation Involve?

Every clinical trial is different. Before you decide whether to participate, the research team will explain the study, what will be asked of you, how long participation may last, and any potential risks and benefits. Participation may include study visits, health assessments, medications or other treatments, and ongoing communication with your research team.

Your Safety and Choice Come First

Clinical trials follow established research protocols and regulatory requirements designed to protect participants. Before joining a study, you’ll go through an informed consent process so you understand what participation involves and have an opportunity to ask questions.

Taking part in clinical research is always voluntary. You can choose not to participate or decide to leave a study after it has begun.

Care That Stays Personal

Vector’s approach to research is centered around physicians and the participants they care for. Our studies are supported by experienced investigators and established medical practices, helping maintain continuity and a personal connection throughout the clinical trial experience.

You’ll have a research team available to answer questions, explain what to expect and support you throughout your participation.

Is There a Cost to Participate?

There is typically no cost to participate. Study-related visits, tests and study medication are generally provided at no charge, and many studies compensate participants for their time and travel. The research team will explain the details for any specific study before you decide.
